Fabulous Find: GreenEdge Kids

August 14, 2008 by Megan

gegreenmod1b Before my son was born, I prided myself on keeping up with the latest fashion trends.  I never thought I’d say this but I actually prefer to shop for my son.  I’ve only just begun to explore the world of eco-fashion.  Conceptually, organic cotton, bamboo, and hemp derivatives make the most eco-sense.

One company is bridging the gap between trendy and sustainable.  At GreenEdge Kids, green IS the new black.  This online children’s boutique specializes in the edgiest of sustainable, organic and eco-friendly children and toddlers’ clothes.  Here you’ll find your favorite eco-friendly designers including Uglyfish Organics, Sticks & Stones, Kate Quinn Organics, Lapsaky, and the company’s private line, GreenEdge Kids.  This is THE place to go when you want to shop from your favorite designers in one place.  Their selection includes clothing made from organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, Tencel, and other recycled fabrics.

skpurdrback If you’re looking for products that fit a specific profile, you may want to consider shopping with a conscience.  Here is where you can conduct a search specific to the cause(s) you’re passionate about, including clothing made in the US, derived from recycled fabric, or manufactured in a sweatshop-free environment.  If you’re still on the fence as to whether or not wearing green is your thing, check out the site’s Being Green section, which highlights conventional clothing manufacturing processes and the effect of your eco-fashion choices.

ljtieswtre GreenEdge Kids carries a diverse selection of clothing in a variety of price ranges.  Of note, eco-friendly fabrics tend to be pricey but well worth the investment due to their durability and sustainability.  Here are a few of my top picks:

One of the highlights of Lola and James’ bold line includes recycled cashmere sweaters.  The company cuts up cashmere sweaters and pieces them together for an artsy, vintage look.

Sustainable Kids’ Reversible Johanna Dress is adorably practical.  No need to pack an extra set of clothes.  Just turn it inside out when it gets dirty…or you want a new look.  The company uses low-impact dyes and 100% organic cotton.  Pair this with coordinating leggings from the same company for an ultra-hip look.

pebluepj2 GreenEdge Kids’ private label includes Energy Cargo Pants for boys (which I LOVE).  They are comfortable, stylish, wrinkle-resistant and most importantly durable.  The company has taken a blend of hemp and organic cotton, and added coconut and burnished bamboo buttons and accented the pants with a water-based screen print.  Look for the first and only USA-made organic cotton denim for boys and girls coming this Fall.

When it’s time to wind down, be sure to check out Peau Ethique’s ultra-soft, organic cotton pajamas for boys and girls.  The company uses low-impact dyes and whites derived from hydrogen peroxide.

Whether you’re looking for chic and unique or edgy and trendy, check out GreenEdge Kids.  If you sign up for their newsletter you’ll receive information on unadvertised promotions available only to newsletter members.  I’m so there!
