My current workout gear is embarrassing. Seriously, it hurts to even think about it. When I have a "dance party" with my kids or turn on a Tae Bo DVD, I usually don a pair of bleach-stained pants and a boring sports bra that probably isn’t as supportive as it should be. Working out makes me feel good about myself, but I don’t think I’ll ever feel great about myself until I feel like I look good, or at least decent, while jumping around and doing the twist to Barbie Girl by Aqua. (Yes…that is my daughter’s number one request at "dance party" time!) Feeling frumpy and unattractive kind of defeats the purpose of working out, doesn’t it? My mission is to find workout gear that is fun and flirty, performs well, and is comfortable, too. It’s nice to feel good about myself, but I’m ready to feel great!
Since my pants are the most embarrassing element of my current workout ensemble, I decided to replace them first. In my search for cute and comfortable workout wear for my bottom half, I was thrilled to discover SkirtSports. This company specializes in workout gear that is feminine and sexy, but performs every bit as well as their frumpy counterparts. Nicole DeBoom the CEO of SkirtSports, encountered a problem similar to mine. Nicole is a professional swimmer, runner, and biker, and wanted something feminine to workout in. Out of this dream, SkirtSports was born!
I was thrilled when my bright pink GymGirl skirt arrived in the mail! It’s made of a stretchy material that is silky soft. I tried it on and was pleased to note that it didn’t give my abdomen that dreaded "muffin top" look. When I worked out with it, I was very pleased with the results. At "dance party" time, I found myself passing the television more frequently, so I could look at my reflection in the shiny surface. It was amazing how much this cute and comfortable item boosted my spirits as soon as put it on!
The GymGirl performs very well. After a rigorous Tae Bo workout, it wasn’t soaking wet around the waistband, like my ugly pants usually are. When I put on my GymGirl, it comes down to about the middle of my thigh. One of the nicest things about the GymGirl skirt is the built-in shorts underneath, with two pockets. I don’t know about you, but when I’m out walking or working out somewhere besides my living room, it’s nice to have a garment with pockets for carrying money, keys, and other necessities. The shorts did ride up a tiny bit, but not enough to be uncomfortable, and I didn’t feel the need to constantly tug them back down since my legs were covered by the skirt.
I love my new GymGirl so much that I’m going to do something daring, and extremely embarrassing: I’m going to post before and after pictures! I had my five-year-old son take these pictures of me after a workout, so please excuse the messy hair!
This first one is of me in my frumpy and totally unflattering black workout pants. (I literally almost threw up after looking at it!)
Next is a photo of me in my GymGirl. Notice how much slimmer my bottom half looks! Drumroll please…
If you are looking for some new workout gear, why not purchase something that performs well and makes you feel good about yourself? Why not check out SkirtSports today? I highly recommend it!

Boy! Didn’t realize that I looked like such a DORK in the first photo. (Embarrassed)

I can’t say enough good things about SkirtSports! They are a fabulous company - and their running skirts are superior to other companies in terms of comfort and style! I LOVE my GymGirl!
Andrea - Thanks for sharing those “before” and “after” photos. You look great in your new GymGirl (I have that same pink one - so flattering!).

Have you tried runningskirts.com? They are having a 50% off sale right now. I just got another runningskirt in black & purple for $24. I prefer this style over the other brands - great fabric. They even have maternity skirts for running moms!
